one of the myriads of interesting human behavior is that, single moms, are extremely protective of their children. (not unlike, most other animals)

the child of single moms, are in general a annoying pest of incoming male, especially when the kid is male. Fundamentally, because it's not his seed. (from which we have the theme of bad step parents in fairy tales.)
