This song is based on Legend of the White serpent↗, a Chinese folk tale. The story is about a White snake and her sister a green snake, both are 精Jing1. Once the white snake was saved by a male student, and fell in love with him, and wishes to become his wife and serve him for her gratitude. However, since she is a monster as a matter of fact, there lies several obstcles in their union... Here's the white snake is singing, of her devotion to the guy.
(In Chinese mythology, 精Jing1 are animals who have lived over a thousand of years and have gained the ability to transform into human form, and understand human affairs. The type of animals that became 精 are often just fox, spider, snake, and invariably female, and beautiful. Some are good, most are bad, ensnaring men or married men.)
