it is interesting to listen to various languages, and assess their melodiousness qualities. Once a person knows a language, she loses the ability to assess thus. I grew up with Chinese and started learning English when was a teen. I don't remember how i regard English sounds before i knew the language. I was too young to have a understanding of things and it was too long ago. Recently i've heard Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, French... i would like to one day listen to these at length for the express purpose of assessing their melodiousness or enjoy the process of.
Once a language is learned, i think the brain process the sound differently, so it can no longer be perceived without the brain scrambling to interpret meanings. I don't know what kind of neuro-lingustical phenomenon is this.
